Few places in North America carry the weight of history like New Mexico, where layers of Native American, Spanish colonial, Mexican, and American cultures have accumulated over centuries. The Camino Real — the Royal Road that once connected Mexico City to the interior — ran through this landscape, and its legacy is visible everywhere.
The journey moves through historic Route 66 before arriving in Santa Fe, one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in North America. From Santa Fe, the travelogue explores Bandelier National Monument, where ancient Ancestral Puebloans carved their homes into volcanic tuff; the living adobe city of Taos; and Acoma Pueblo — one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in all of North America, perched dramatically atop a 367-foot mesa.
New Mexico's landscape of high desert, painted desert, and mountain wilderness is unlike anything else in the country. Georgia O'Keeffe understood this, and her art became inseparable from the New Mexico light. This travelogue captures that light and everything that lives beneath it.
