Vienna stands as one of Europe's great imperial capitals, and this travelogue explores its extraordinary Habsburg heritage with the depth it deserves. For six centuries, the Habsburg dynasty ruled an empire stretching from Spain to the Balkans, and they built Vienna accordingly — with palaces, churches, museums, and a coffee house culture that survives to this day.

The journey visits the magnificent Schönbrunn Palace — the Habsburg summer residence with its 1,441 rooms and sweeping formal gardens — and the Hofburg's imperial apartments, where the story of Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth (the iconic 'Sisi') comes to vivid life. The Baroque masterpiece of St. Peter's Abbey and the soaring Cathedral of St. Stephen anchor the historic center.

The travelogue extends south to Bavaria and Germany's enchanting Lake District, where the Alps meet a landscape of extraordinary beauty. This is Central Europe at its most civilized and most beautiful — music, architecture, pastry, and history in equal measure.
